Where do you see the future for women as leaders in the sports arena going?
I see a number of women being able to not only be in the front office as executives, [but] to be coaches and even to be owners going into this new decade. It’s more about women not only wanting these opportunities but knowing with confidence that they’re going to be able to get those opportunities. So I would like to see not only the diversity part, but also the inclusion part. A lot of times people talk about diversity and inclusion like “I’m diverse because I hired a woman,” but are you including her in those key decisions, and having that voice in the room? I think that we have to be intentional.
Tell me about your new Secret campaign.
I was super excited to do this campaign with Secret All Strength No Sweat. All Strength No Sweat means you’re not going to sweat the obstacles that happen in life. All strength means that together all of us knowing the superpower that’s inside is going to get you to where you’re trying to go. This new decade [means] new blessings, new beginnings. We’re going to use our strength in numbers, our strength together and we’re going to get over obstacles without sweating the small stuff.
What do you consider your superpower?
I consider my superpower to be my, my inner strength, my confidence in who I am. I never have to worry about feeling like I need to be someone else. I’m very comfortable in my own skin and when you go out into the world every day with that approach then it’s much easier for you to be successful.
What advice do you have for young people who want to follow in your footsteps?
The biggest thing I would say is to stay humble, but stay hungry. I always say there’s always somebody out there that probably shot the ball better than me, but I never want to let somebody outwork me.
