Barrett Keithley
Barrett Keithley is a 31-year-old Aboriginal-American born on the South Side of Chicago. He is a self-taught artist whose passion for art started as a child while reading and writing poetry.
Which artists inspired you the most?
I am inspired by many artists, people, places and things. I’m empathetic to my surroundings. I love my experience, [whether] it be negative or positive because it all feeds my creativity. My early influencers were my brothers, who allowed me to see their artwork.
Why is art a good investment?
Art is such a good investment because it is the only commodity that holds its value. … You spend $100 on an art piece and [it] is still worth $100 and, in most cases, increasing in value upwards to 1000 times its value.
