Congressman Hank Johnson spearheads Restoration Resources Fair for ex-offenders

What type of services will be available?

They may need help with job placement. There might be some things on the criminal record that can be expunged or cleaned up. These kinds of barriers may prevent people from being able to get a job, so we will have people on-site who will be able to help. Employers who have jobs will be available. We will have educational resources available. People can find out about vocational training and opportunities to get training in various fields. There will be people available who can help with health care.

How can churches and other houses of worship have the biggest impact?

Churches, mosques, and other spiritual places of worship have been the mainstays in our community, and so officials from churches and mosques will be available at the Restoration Resource Fair. Spiritual health is so important in terms of [people] uplifting themselves and uplifting our community.

What are three things you want attendees to take away from the Restoration Resources Fair?

1. They can make it.

2. They have help in making it.

3. They can take advantage of these opportunities that we are putting before them just by simply moving forward toward [them] one step at a time. Don’t be afraid. Overcome your own fear [and] anxiety, and start taking advantage of resources that are available in the community. We’re going to show you what those opportunities are, and we’re going to give you the information so that you can take it and move forward and then will support you as you move forward.
