What has your experience been like working with Tyler Perry?
It’s been unreal. It kind of reminds me of the football season. Everyone talks about how fast he shoots. We shot 25 episodes in three-and-a-half weeks. If you think about my experience in the NFL, you ultimately have about four weeks to try to make a football team. So, working with Tyler, you get the script for 25 episodes, and you have three weeks to put your best foot forward.
Since working with him, I’ve booked other shows like “NCIS” where have seven pages a day, and with Tyler, we film 125 pages a day. Being able to read, respond and react quickly in those seven pages is probably one of the greatest things that ever happened to me as an actor.
What is the best advice he’s given you?
The best advice that he’s given me was that I’m an eagle among pigeons. He said never to dumb myself down to other people’s versions of what I should be.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
In the next five years, I see myself having my own TV show. I see myself building a platform where I can help other artists.
