Entrepreneur Tracey Pickett creates Hairbrella to save your style from the rain

How did Spelman prepare you as a businesswoman?

Going to an HBCU is one of the best decisions I could have made. I don’t think I realized how my experience would shape how I saw the world post-matriculation and how unique that experience would be once I got into the real world. There’s something magical that happens to your ambition, confidence and vision for your life when you spend four years interfacing with a host of intelligent Black women who are all taught and shown that they can be and do whatever they want.

Tell us about your Hairbrella Pro launch.

On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, we launched the Hairbrella Pro Rain Hat and Face Shield. The team and I have been working hard to crunch what is usually a four-month development cycle into four weeks. We are donating 100 [Hairbrella] Pros to essential workers in our community and will be donating an additional Pro for orders we receive during our pre-launch. We have a goal to donate 1,000 Pros to essential workers and every order in our pre-sale will help us do that. We are also engaging those essential workers in focus groups to understand how we can better serve their respective industries.
