Anthony Hamilton uses new single to show support for Black Lives Matter

With everything going on today with the Black Lives Matter movement and civil unrest across the country, where do you feel artists fit in the conversation?

I believe as artists we have an obligation and a duty to uplift the community and use music to show the best of us. With everything going on now, who cares about your booty clapping or your pistols popping. Unless you’re using that booty to take people to the polls, nobody cares.

Are you optimistic about the changes happening in the country right now?

I think White people are finally listening. A lot of [the members of] our police force today are just KKK hiding behind blue, blue, blue. I think people are awake, and with the right leadership and by not letting up on the gas, we can truly see change. We need some of those old White racist men out of office and get some new people in positions that are a better representation of the people. Either there is going to be a lot of bloodshed, or there are going to be some changes for the better.
