In January 2020, Booker established the Lester Booker Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund for Diversity and Inclusion at Central Michigan University. This annual $2,500 scholarship is awarded to one undergraduate student who demonstrates an active commitment to the participation of underrepresented communities in educational pursuits.
“I had an amazing experience at CMU,” Booker said. “I want CMU to remain true to who it is. If I can help sow treasure and time into it, I will, so that same experience can be available for others—especially people of color.”
As a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the scholarship award increased to $5,000 for the 2021-2022 academic year, with the hopes of the additional aid helping fund the recipient’s success in their academic endeavors. Find more information about the scholarship here.
