‘Powerbook III: Raising Kanan’ executive producer Sascha Penn breaks down what to expect

Sascha Penn is the executive producer, creator, showrunner and writer for Powerbook III: Raising Kanan which is set to premiere on Sunday, July 18 on the STARZ network.  Penn previously wrote the CBS pilot Main Justice where he was partnered with former US Attorney General Eric Holder. He also was a writer for the original series Power on STARZ and BET’s Survivor’s Remorse. He has written films for every studio including currently writing “Bad Girls Guide to Havana” , “Cliffhang”, “Creed ll” and Magnificent Seven.

Rolling Out’s Star Studios sat down with Penn to get the inside scoop on what fans can expect from this highly anticipated series. Powerbook lll: Raising Kanan is a prequel to the original Power franchise and is set in South Jamaica, Queens, in 1991. It is a sprawling family drama that revolves around the coming of age of Kanan Stark; Ghost and Tommy’s mentor, partner and adversary, who ultimately dies in a hail of gunfire in the eighth episode of Power’s penultimate season.
