got emotional when Atlanta city officials presented him with a plaque and declared Oct. 20, 2021, as “Lil Nas X Day.”

It was apropos that Atlanta city councilman and current mayoral candidate Antonio Brown paid homage to Lil Nas X in a glitzy ceremony that was attended by singer Kandi Burruss, her husband Todd Tucker and other dignitaries. Brown is seeking to become the first member of the LBGTQ community to become the city’s mayor. Therefore, his words really resonated with Nas X.

“He has made a considerable impact on the LGBTQ community by reshaping how society accepts LGBTQ artists within the music industry, and empowering others to break barriers and be more open, expressive, and personal through music and art,” Brown said to the crowd before turning to address Nas directly.

“And Lil Nas X, I just wanna say you inspire me. I’m running to be the mayor of Atlanta. I would be the first LGBTQ mayor in the history of the city. And you inspire me, allow me to believe I can do it. So thank you,” Brown said.

Lil Nas took the mic and gave a short but powerful testimony about his humble roots in Atlanta and how much his life has been transformed in less than five years.

“Thank you all for being here. This is incredible …” he said“I’m not gonna cry. Shout-out to Atlanta. I know a lot of you probably didn’t know I’m from Atlanta … I’m from the A. But seriously, this is amazing. I would not imagine I would be here four years ago, when I was at my sister’s house, sleeping on the floor … This is incredible.”
