“As a learning institution that champions inclusivity, diversity, equity, and belonging, we care deeply about protecting the well-being and dignity of every member of our student body, faculty, and community. We recognize that not everyone will accept or welcome a particular artist’s point of view, product, or craft, but reject the notion that a ‘cancel culture’ is a healthy or constructive means to teach our students how society should balance creative freedom with protecting the right and dignity of all of its members,” the school said in a statement obtained by Politico Playbook.
The postponement was a compromise between the two sides as the school originally elected to just cancel the fundraiser. Chappelle has donated over a $100,000 to the school in the past and also gave his alma mater his 2017 Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
