Andrews’ next post is a video of Frazier being placed in a police car as protesters began chanting “shame” at the officers.
The remaining protesters were given trespassing warnings and DeSantis held his press conference at another location, WJTX4 later reported.
“I think it’s another stunning example of the governor’s attempt to stop Black organizers from protesting peacefully,” Frazier told the local TV station after being released from custody. “First Amendment rights and public expression [are] critical to a functioning democracy. This is what this is all about. The governor should not attempt to stop the people from being heard.”
The activist also clarified he was not done protesting after the arrest.
“This is not just a moment, this is a movement,” he said. “We are accepting the baton in the relay race of history passed onto us by activists who considered to do the same thing long before us.”
