LF: How did you come up with the idea for BlkWomenHustle?

LD: So, it came at a crazy time. Honestly, I was coming out of depression, no job, trying to find a job, working contract jobs and whatnot. And I was just in this season of having dialogue between Black men and women, especially on Facebook. I remember asking a question one day to Black women: “What has your experience been like working with other Black women?” The comments had me like is this really us? I know we’re better than this, I’ve experienced it for myself. … I want to make sure we keep that conversation going so we can get rid of that narrative that we can’t work together.

There [are] already enough people telling us that we can’t unite or Black women don’t work well together, all the negative things. So, I was just like let’s put this community together. I started by myself, but over 100,000 Black women later, we are on rolling out.

LF: What does the collective entail?

LD: The first 100 Black women to sign up for the BlkWomanHustle Collective will receive two hours of consultations. It will be in one-on-one sessions, 30 minutes with each individual. Once you sign up, you’ll have direct access to myself as a marketing strategist for 30, minutes, Lerae Funderburg as the lawyer for 30 minutes, Rachel Gibbs as the business credit consultant for 30 minutes, and Pam Bell, the CPA for 30 minutes. You’ll be able to ask any of the questions that you’ve been dying to ask a professional and you weren’t able to make the investment.
