What advice would you give a young person who feels they are being underpaid and not welcomed to have a seat at a table they could build?
KP: Here are four C-CRETS we preach all the time: One, know your market value. Two, get your personal marketing collateral tight. Three, get your mouthpiece right. And four, build your network and personal board of directors. It’s hard for you to advocate for yourself if you don’t know your market value. Do your research to find out what you should be getting paid. But before marching in and demanding a raise or a promotion, you have to make sure your résumé, your social media presence and your story are tight. You can’t have raggedy paperwork or rambling stories representing your personal brand. And finally, you have to have people around you that will tell you the truth and open doors for you.
What are your goals for C-CRETS in the next five years?
RR: Generate $50 million in total compensation increases for our C-CRETS village. [A] syndicated podcast with more than one million listeners. Expand our platform to include online courses, books and conferences. And finally, we want to still be having as much fun as we are having now because this does not feel like work when we’re making such a huge difference for the village.
