There is a small possibility that NBA superstar Kyrie Irving could be reunited with LeBron James.
The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to trade embattled point guard Russell Westbrook, 33, to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Irving, 30, Yahoo Sports reports.
Westbrook, who made the NBA’s Top 75 list and is en route to the Hall of Fame, nevertheless had what pundits call a horrid 2022-23 season when he returned to his hometown and played for the Lakers. Westbrook’s inability to hit the outside shot, coupled with his penchant for turnovers, greatly hampered the Lakers, especially when both James and Anthony Davis went down with injuries.
Westbrook’s $47 million-a-year salary also makes him a very unattractive trade prospect. However, the Nets made it known that they are actively seeking to trade the mercurial Irving, whose spectacular court play is offset by a series of questionable decisions that have kept him off the court throughout his three-year tenure in Brooklyn.
Moreover, now that Irving’s teammate Kevin Durant has demanded a trade from the Brooklyn Nets, the team brass are reportedly unwilling to keep Irving and therefore are entertaining trade offers for the point guard from many teams.
The discussions between the Lakers and Nets are said to only be in the “preliminary” stages at this point.
