Cardi B shared with fans via Instagram Live that her album delay is due to her anxiety issues. “Everybody just critiques everything that I do.” the Grammy-award-winning rapper stated. “I feel like I got so many songs, and I don’t like anything. I feel like nothing is good enough … And I got so much money saved up I be like, ‘Yeah, whatever.”
The rapper gave a list of reasons her album has not been released. She candidly explained to her audience that she also has anxiety when she’s not around her children. “I’m just a mom, and I do have anxiety. I’ve been having a lot of anxiety because I know I have to go out on tour right after I drop my album, and I have bad separation anxiety from my kids.”
The ballad of a working mom sounds all too familiar. Fans flooded the Live comments in support of Cardi B, agreeing that mom anxiety is also natural. Most mothers don’t anticipate how strongly they’ll feel about having to return to work after giving birth. According to a study by the National Library of Medicine, over half of the mothers with infants less than one year old are employed, full-time or part-time. Meaning maternity leave is limited, causing anxiety and even postpartum depression.
Reflecting on positive experiences helped Cardi B cope with her feelings of anxiousness. She reminisced on her recent accomplishments and expressed gratitude to her fans for their support.
The National Library of Medicine study also suggests finding flexible work and keeping a positive mindset through the transition. Moms can reduce their anxiety by staying active or practicing prayer and meditation.
