Fresh x Reckless is a New Orleans rap duo comprised of Jamel and Deelo. The group has taken social media by storm, showing fans a new style of music that the city of New Orleans. Their hit song “BLICKY” has been a fan favorite on TikTok for months, which has also started a dance trend for the new genre.
What does 50 years of hip-hop mean to all?
Jamel: It really influenced me as far as my childhood. I used to grow up on a couple of rappers singers, and dancers of course. I can’t name all of the rappers, but I really grew up on hip-hop.
Deelo: I love music in general, but hip-hop for sure. Artists like Master P and Jay-Z inspired us, and also Michael Jackson, even though his music genre is pop. I still feel like it’s all connected, and we mix everything together. People call the music that we make “trap pop,” because that’s what it is.
How has it been for you all bringing a new sound to hip-hop?
D: We’re from New Orleans, and we’re coming out with a certain image and look, and what we do is not what New Orleans is used to, so it took a while for them to gravitate to it. At the end of the day, it feels great to just do what we do as far as creating “pop trap,” hip-hop, and R&B.
Everybody is listening to the hit single “Don’t Go.” Will there be a remix?
D: Everybody wants to get on the remix. We’ve talked about it and we heard some verses, we’re just getting everything together.
J: It’s a lot of people we thought about putting on the remix, but we’re going to work it out.
What do y’all have coming up?
D: We have an EP coming and a tour. We’re going to have more shows and we’re touching every state.
