Retired NBA player Grant Hill and his wife, star singer Tamia, have become minority stakeholders in a pair of sports teams.
The longtime power couple took their excitement to Instagram about their limited ownership in the Orlando City Soccer Club and the National Women’s Soccer League‘s Orlando Pride. Hill also is a co-owner of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.
“We are so grateful to join on as partners with the @orlpride & @orlandocitysc ownership group,” the Hills shared on Instagram. “We have been huge fans of both teams over the years and have loved watching and supporting the women and men of the @nwsl & @mls. We can’t wait to continue with our support and enjoy in the passion and excitement at @exploriastadium for many years to come.”
The Hills have been married since 1999, share four children and launched their family brand – the Hill Brand – after suffering two major illnesses. After he retired from the NBA, where he last played for the Clippers in 2013, Grant took a little over $100 million that he’d earned during his career and started investing in multiple real estate companies. This more than doubled his earnings, bringing his net worth to $250 million. His smart financial decisions aren’t a recent thing; during his NBA playing days, he refused to pay an agent, instead represented himself.
The Hills expressed their gratitude to Mark Wilf, the chairman and co-owner of Orlando City SC, and his family for the opportunity to be a part of the Orlando City and Orlando Pride family. “From the moment we met the Wilfs, we were impressed with their vision for the club and the passion they have for giving back to the Central Florida community, something that is also of great importance to us,” the Hills said.
Wilf responded by showing his appreciation and acknowledging the Hills’ years of commitment to the club and the community.
“Both boast professional résumés that speak for themselves and are highly accomplished individuals in the business world but, more importantly, they are incredible contributors to the greater Orlando area,” he said. “Tamia and Grant have shown passion and support for our teams for many years, including being staunch supporters of the Orlando Pride since day one, so we are looking forward to continuing to build our organization through their influence and dedication.”
