Kim Kardashian wanted her kids to feel “loved and heard” amid her split from Ye West.
The 43-year-old beauty announced her split from West in 2021, and Kardashian was determined to protect her children throughout the process.
The reality star — who has North, 10, Saint, 7, Chicago, 5, and Psalm, 4, with the rapper — told GQ‘s Men of the Year issue: “Ultimately, what matters is that kids feel loved and heard. You want to be sensitive because they’re just kids, and it’s hard to go through no matter what age. You have to make sure that you only go to a level that they can understand. It’s okay to show a vulnerable side. You never go to a negative side.”
Despite this, Kardashian is still happy to wear her heart on her sleeve.
“Just because I know how to manage my stress well doesn’t mean that I don’t feel the emotions. If I’m sad, of course I will cry and feel it,” the SKIMS founder explained.
Kardashian actually learned from how her own parents — Kris Jenner and her late dad Robert Kardashian —handled their divorce.
“I did think about how my parents handled it with us. I just remember them being open,” she shared.
Kardashian also revealed that she turned to a therapist for help before she split from West.
“I tried a little bit before my marriage ended. I do have a therapist that only deals in child psychology that I talk to to get parenting tips and advice. Sometimes I feel challenged by parenting. But I have the best group of friends and we talk about everything together, so that to me is therapy. I hit the lottery, the f—ing Mega Ball of friends,” she said.
