What was supposed to be a private matter is now a public spectacle much to the dismay of Teyana Taylor

Teyana Taylor is reluctantly breaking her silence about her impending divorce from former NBA star Iman Shumpert.

On Friday, November 24, the “K.T.S.E.” artist posted a statement via Instagram stories addressing the “private matter” that has since become public fodder.

“I mind my business, don’t bother nobody & y’all know I’ve never played about my children, family, & our privacy. I have not spoken on this private matter to any media outlets or blogs etc. So everyone claiming ‘Teyana said’ didn’t get any statements directly from ME. It is very heartbreaking that someone would take out the time to make such a private matter public for the world to see. However, protecting my family is one thing I’ve ALWAYS done & for my children, I will continue to do. Please if y’all love y’all play nieces, Junie & Rue, like y’all have shown, please allow myself & my family some privacy to resolve this matter in peace. Love y’all.”

Taylor is referencing alleged statements from recently leaked court documents in which she had tried to keep private by using just the initials of herself and Shumpert. It wasn’t until last week when Shumpert filed a motion to use their full and legal names in the divorce petition that the news of the divorce proceedings became public. Taylor’s attorney notes that prior to Shumpert’s motion, the divorce had been kept under wraps for almost a year.

Shumpert’s attorney released a statement after his motion was filed that read “Mr. Shumpert hopes parties and counsel can work toward a fair resolution, keeping the best interests of the children of paramount concern.”

The divorce petition filed by Taylor accuses Shumpert of years of emotional and mental abuse and states she believes the marriage to be “irretrievably broken”. Taylor seeks joint custody of their two kids plus primary physical custody as well as child support.

The couple had been together for ten years and married since 2016.
