Drake could be considered one of the biggest artists today, but he is also in the category of one of the artists who is disliked by many.
In a recent interview with “The Cutting Room Floor” podcast, rapper-actor Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, was asked if he considered Drake’s music hip-hop, and his response had many people talking.
“Drake is pop to me, in the sense like, if I was in Target in Houston and I heard a Drake song … it feels like a lot of his music is compatible with shopping,” Bey said. “Or shopping with an edge in certain instances. It’s likeable.”
While some disagreed with Bey’s statements, there were plenty who agreed with his sentiments regarding the rapper’s discography.
Lil Wayne, who has supported Drake since he came onto the music scene, was a guest on Richard Sherman’s podcast and was asked about the Canadian rapper. Sherman first gave Wayne credit for finding talent like Drake and signing him to his label.

“I get that from my upbringing, from being around Birdman,” Wayne said.
Sherman then asked Wayne why he thinks people hate on Drake, and Wayne said it has nothing to do with music.
“He red, he light-skinned. That’s just American history,” Wayne said. “How I know is, because I’m not light-skinned. I hated on all light-skinned dudes in school. So yeah, it’s American history.”
