Dave Bautista has been cast in the action-adventure movie Afterburn.
The 55-year-old star will star alongside Samuel L. Jackson in the post-apocalyptic story directed by J.J. Perry.
The plot takes place 10 years after a solar flare has wiped out technology across the world and Bautista plays the role of a former soldier who works as a treasure hunter recovering valuable items for powerful clients. His new mission is to team up with freedom fighter Drea to recover the Mona Lisa before an unhinged warlord gets his hands on the famous painting.
The film is adapted from the Red 5 comic novel series of the same name, and Jackson has been cast in the role of Valentine a freedom fighter.
Filming for the flick is due to begin in Europe in April and additional casting is underway.
Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing for original film and the project is due to be launched at next week’s European Film Market.
The two producers first tried to get the movie into production in 2018, but have made revisions with reconseptualized ideas six years later.
“Afterburn is a terrific action story, combining the fun of Indiana Jones with the near future world [tale] of Children of Men,” Jaffe said.
“J.J. is going to bring this to life in a thrilling way, using real practical stunt work to create authentic, visceral set pieces. Dave is one of the leading action stars in the world today, as well as being an actor with real soul and versatility. So excited to be making Afterburn with them both.” he added.
