In the dynamic world of textured hair care, Aris Singleton stands as a remarkable figure, leading the charge as the CEO of Thank God It’s Natural (tgin), a globally renowned haircare brand available in major retailers such as Target, Walmart, Ulta Beauty, Sally Beauty, Whole Foods, CVS, other national and international retailers, online and more. With a resolute commitment to excellence, Singleton deftly manages day-to-day operations, sales, and strategic partnerships, steering ‘tgin’ to unparalleled heights.

Singleton’s journey with ‘tgin’ began in its nascent stages in July 2009, and her dedication led her back to the company in 2017, armed with a bachelors degree in finance from Texas Southern University. She honed her skills under the late ‘tgin’ founder, Chris-Tia Donaldson, allowing her to elevate the brand from a small enterprise to a multi-million-dollar global success in the natural hair care industry.

Singleton is not just a business maven but a force for change. She has joined the Young Presidents Organization, Chicago chapter, and collaborates with fellow women entrepreneurs, leaving an indelible mark on the beauty sector. Her influence extends to championing women-led businesses, exemplified through her commitment to the ‘tgin’ Foundation, where she continues the legacy of advocating for breast cancer survivors facing financial hardship and addressing health disparities. Singleton embodies leadership, empowerment, and transformative impact.

Rolling out recognized Singleton as a Sisters with Superpowers Honoree – Chicago Edition, on Thursday October 26, 2023 at The Gwen Hotel. ‘tgin’ was a proud sponsor of the event and gifted sample products to all attendees, which included a full sized 4oz Miracle RepaiRx Smooth and Protect Edge Control, a full sized 4oz Hawaiian Hibiscus scented natural soap bar with olive oil and a sample packet of ‘tgin’ Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer for Natural Hair.

We spoke more with Singleton about who she is, how she does it all, and what she considers her superpowers to be.

As a Black woman, what do you consider your superpower(s) to be?

I believe my superpowers are having the freedom to show up as my authentic self and my faith in God.

What key skills or qualities make you unique as an African American female leader?

I feel there are four key skills and qualities that make a leader unique, with the first one being resilience. I have bounced back from setbacks and persevered in the face of those challenges. The second one is empathy: being empathetic and relating to the experiences and feelings of others. Number three for me is the ability to be adaptable. In this industry, you have to be open to change, and able to navigate through so many situations. And finally, and most importantly, having a clear vision for the future is what sets me apart and makes me a unique African American female leader.

Why is it important for more experienced Black women to reach back and help younger women of color.

It is very important to pay it forward because it creates a cycle of empowerment and encouragement. When younger women receive support, they are more likely to pay it forward in the future.

Representation is essential. When younger women see successful and experienced Black women in leadership roles or positions of influence, it reinforces the idea that they too can achieve their goals, regardless of societal barriers.

I make it my goal to provide mentorship and guidance by sharing my experiences, offering advice, and serving as a role model. It’s my responsibility to help younger women navigate challenges they may face in various aspects of life.

As a successful woman in business, what is your greatest or proudest achievement?

Empowering other women and giving back to my community are my greatest achievements. This contributes to having a positive impact on future generations.

What makes me proud is having the courage to continue to build on my aunt’s legacy and continuing to grow, create and lead a thriving business.
