Jennifer Lopez didn’t have as easy a time as one may think when trying to convince some celebrities to cameo in her upcoming film, This Is Me … Now: A Love Story. Lopez’s rekindled romance with now husband Ben Affleck helped inspire the film, which is accompanied by a new companion piece album.
During a recent press conference to promote Amazon Original films, Lopez and director Dave Meyers shed some light on all that went behind coordinating and confirming some of the cameo appearances audiences will see with Lopez being transparent about the degree of difficulty she faced.
“It was a challenge with the cameos that we have in the movie,” Lopez said. “We obviously had quite a few. Some came on the same day, some didn’t. We had to make it work. We did whatever we could.”
Meyers says he had to shoot most of the cameos separately and by far this challenge made it “the hardest scene to edit” for him.
“A lot of them were personal friends of Jen‘s, so Jen had to switch out of performance mode and kind of come join me and kind of hold their hands, because they didn’t understand what they were doing and they were out there wearing costumes on a green screen,” the 51-year-old director said.
“I was like … just trust me. It’s going to be fine. I would never make you look crazy. And if it looks crazy, we will throw it in the garbage. Don’t worry about it,” she recalls. “But luckily it turned out well. And a lot of them have seen the film already and are so excited.”
Some of the cameos in the musical and visual interpretation piece will include Affleck, Fat Joe, Jenifer Lewis, Keke Palmer, Sofia Vergara, and Trevor Noah among others.
This Is Me … Now: A Love Story is set to drop on Prime Video on Feb. 16 with the companion album, This Is Me … Now, being released the same day.
