Chris Bey is a name that has become synonymous with high-flying athleticism and strategic finesse in professional wrestling. After establishing himself as one of the most sought-after free agents in the wrestling arena, he made the strategic decision to join the ranks of IMPACT Wrestling. Bey, dubbed “The Ultimate Finesser,” has consistently wowed fans with his agility and innovative maneuvers, setting the ring ablaze with every performance.
Today, Bey — alongside Ace Austin as part of the dynamic duo ABC — stands as one-half of the IMPACT World Tag Team Champions. Rolling out had a candid conversation with Bey, as he reflects on his journey with TNA, his most memorable matches and what people can expect in New Orleans.
After a two-year absence, TNA Wrestling is making a grand return to New Orleans. As a wrestler, how does it feel to be part of this momentous comeback to the city?
We had an amazing time in New Orleans a few years ago when TNA came to town. It was my first time in the city, and it was everything I had ever heard it was. We’re looking forward to coming back and representing TNA as the World Tag Team Champions.
TNA Wrestling has a special place in the hearts of many wrestlers. Can you share what you love most about being part of the TNA family and how it has impacted your wrestling career?
What I love the most about TNA is that it is a family. Most people in wrestling can’t say that, and I don’t know if you’re truly supposed to. At the end of the day, we all want to be the best, but in TNA we want to be the best together. It’s impacted my career by teaching me I don’t necessarily have to be selfish to reach goals and build with the team.
With TNA returning to New Orleans for No Surrender and Bayou Blast, what can audiences expect from these back-to-back nights of live pro wrestling? How do these events stand out from other wrestling shows?
They can expect the best professional wrestling in the world. They can expect some new awesome wrestling gear from The ABC. They can expect to be a part of memories that will last throughout our company’s history.
Without giving away too much, are there any matchups or storylines fans should be particularly excited about?
After losing to the Grizzled Young Vets, we are down one in the best-of-three series. We plan on tying the score and making sure we defend our championship at No Surrender.
Share your most memorable experience in New Orleans.
The last time we were in New Orleans, Ace Austin and I were on opposite sides of the ring as opponents. It’s always great being in the ring with Austin, whether we’re teaming up or against each other. He’s one of the best, and he brings out the best in me. We also had “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Jake Something in the match, which just made for all types of blends of styles.
Wrestling is a dream for many youths looking to enter the sport. What words of encouragement or advice do you have for young fans in New Orleans and beyond who aspire to become professional wrestlers?
Stay consistent and be different. There is only one you in the world, so be that. Don’t get lost in trying to be something you are not because you as yourself is the most special thing you can be.
Give us a glimpse into your preparation routine for a major event like this, especially when it marks a return to a city after a significant time.
[The] first thing is I always have to hit the gym to prepare my mind and my body. I go to social media to implore all of our fans to come out and join us for the special event. I get the most awesome outfit I can have made for a city with a rich history of style and pageantry.
Bayou Blast will be held on Feb. 24 at the Alario Center in Westwego, Louisiana.
