Tameka Foster couldn’t help but to have her stylist hat on as she watched ex-husband Usher’s riveting halftime performance at the Super Bowl recently.
A well-respected fashion stylist who counts Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and Patti LaBelle among her many clients, Foster told People in a recent interview that the singer’s outfits were just about perfect except for one very tiny thing.
“His looks were great … I thought he looked nice,” Foster said. “The only comment I had is that I wish that his opening outfit was a little more slim fit — not small, but a little slimmer, just because I really prefer to see lines on dancers when people are dancing. I like to see the lines of their physique. But aside from that, I loved the outfits. I loved the opening, the overcoat, everything.”
As for his overall performance, Foster – who shares sons Usher V, 16, and Naviyd Ely, 15, with the “U Remind Me” singer – says it was an A+ performance with special praise for her ex-hubby’s execution in juggling the difficult task of dancing while singing live.
“I think that he did amazingly well,” Foster said with pride. “I did not notice one — I mean, not one — blemish in the performance. He crushed it … he killed it. I don’t think people realize that he’s singing live and doing all of this stuff. So that’s one thing that really needs to be taken into consideration. The mic is always on when he’s around, he can sing for real. It was beyond … above anyone’s expectations.”
Foster also shared that the planning of Usher’s halftime show was in part a family affair as youngest son Naviyd played a big part in the direction of the performance.
“Naviyd was very instrumental in his father’s Super Bowl performance,” she beamed. “He is so creative … he had tons of ideas. He literally did the whole performance — even with [Usher] starting out in the chair. I want him to go the creative director route. That is his calling.”
Always one to stay busy herself, Foster is currently starring in WE tv’s “Bold & Boujie” alongside Crystal Smith, Gocha Hawkins, Malaysia Pargo, and Princess Banton-Lofters.
