Porsha Williams dropped a veritable bomb on pop culture when she surprisingly filed for divorce from her husband, business baron Simon Guobadia, after just 15 months of marriage.
Two major events recently transpired in Williams‘ life that had already catapulted her back to the top of the U.S. headlines after a short time out of the spotlight: 1) she decided to return to the reality TV show that made her famous, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and 2) and the culture discovered that Guobadia had been denied U.S. citizenship multiple times due to corruption cases that date back to the 1980s.
Despite the abject humiliation that Williams might be experiencing today, People magazine spoke to the people orbiting her world, and they claim the divorce filing has nothing to do with the citizenship and naturalization process.

People quotes a source who stated that the dissolution of the marriage is “unrelated to recent allegations involving Simon’s past” and that this is an “ongoing matter.”
Williams and Guobadia surprisingly got engaged in May 2021 after just one month of dating, then proceeded to walk down the aisle in a Nigerian-inspired wedding ceremony in November 2022.
“Yes we are crazy in love,” Williams told her eight million Instagram followers after the engagement was announced. “I know it’s fast, but we are living life each day to its fullest. I choose happiness every morning and every night.”

Currently, Williams has signed a deal with NBCUniversal on “scripted project opportunities across the company’s broadcast and streaming properties,” the magazine reports.
“I’m incredibly thankful for the vision and faith NBCUniversal has put in me to be a larger part of their family,” Williams said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to being back on ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta,’ and showing the world my new world!”
Williams, who joined RHOA’s fifth season, left the show after getting married during Season 13. Together, the couple parlayed their fame into a popular spinoff show, “Porsha’s Family Matters,” in 2021.
It remains to be seen how soon Guobadia will be deported back to Nigeria since it appears that he will never procure American citizenship.
