During Women’s History Month, a North Carolina man held back no punches when asked about the 2024 general election primary. NBC News Now correspondent Shaquille Brewster was in Graham, North Carolina, when he stopped Emmett Martin for an interview. The Republican primary features Donald Trump with Nikki Haley as a distant second. When asked why he didn’t vote for Haley, Martin was blunt.
“A woman’s not going to be a good president,” he said. “She ain’t got no balls to scratch; she’s just going to scratch her head. All a woman’s good for, in my book, is having babies and taking care of the house. That’s the old thing, but you know I’m old school.”
Brewster followed up with a simple question: “So you never even considered her?”
“No,” Martin replied.
“Mainly because she’s a woman?” Brewster pushed.
“Because she’s female,” Martin clarified. “I mean, don’t take me wrong, females know what they’re doing, but they still have to have a little guidance. So, Trump would be the one to guide her.”
According to the Associated Press at 1:01 p.m. EST on March 5, Haley had 43 delegates. Trump has 273 delegates. It takes 1,215 delegates to win the nomination.

Men and women have told me they wouldn’t vote for Haley because she’s a woman before (and in plenty of other states), but rarely is it said this explicitly and in front of a camera. https://t.co/2t2GAw50Mk pic.twitter.com/nmTSL2Ymh6
