Jeezy has been a staple in Atlanta hip-hop, and he has continued to use his influence for good, showing many how to grow and learn from their mistakes. His book, Adversity for Sale: Ya Gotta Believe, shares stories of what it took for him to get where he is today and how others can change their lives and be a better version of themselves. Through surviving the streets, becoming a successful rapper and becoming a businessman, Jeezy has the tools to face adversity and just believe.
Jeezy sat down with rolling out to talk about his book, things he learned about money throughout his life and a message that he would send to all of the fathers.
What did you learn about yourself while writing the book?
It was very therapeutic, if I’m honest. It was a lot of things that I hadn’t dealt with, a lot of things that I had to go back and uncover and work back through. Most parts were just seeing the growth, but then also knowing that there were things that I still had to work on. I think the hardest part for me was, like, [dealing with] a lot of the people that I lost, especially one of my great friends, Shakir Stuart. Having to reiterate that on the audio version was a little tough for me because I don’t think I ever dealt with that properly, but I think we’re in a good place now.
What did you learn about money that you didn’t know about earlier?
What I know now that I didn’t know then is that is a tool. It gives you options in life. Then, I thought it was a means to an end; I thought it was everything. I think the difference is now you just have to have an abundant mindset when it comes to it because it’s there. Back then, I operated out of scarcity; now having an abundant mindset, I know that there’s plenty of money out there in the world.
What is a message that you would give to all the fathers?
Keep going, keep staying strong. Keep taking care of your family, your kids and the people that you love. Just know that you are enough, and we are rooting for you.
