Frankie Beverly is giving fans one last chance to watch him perform and the entire world is thanking him for his contributions. Earlier this month, Beverly received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the NAACP Image Awards.
During his stop in Atlanta at State Farm Arena for his final tour ever on March 22, Mayor Andre Dickens presented Beverly with the Phoenix Award, the city’s highest honor.
“Frankie, [Atlanta Councilwoman] Marci [Collier Overstreet] grew up here in Atlanta, and you were the soundtrack to our lives growing up,” Dickens said. “There are a whole bunch off our classmates and cousins in here who started out with our mama’s cleaning out the house and playing your music, right? And then as we grew up, you became the soundtrack to our lives, the soundtracks to our summers, throughout Chastain Park every single summer.
“We love you the way you love on the ATL. You show us love every single year. We love you from ‘Joy and Pain’ to ‘Happy Feelings,’ and we’re not going to say farewell, we’re going to throw up our ones, y’all. We are one. Look around, look at the ATL. We are one.”
Usher also recently received a Phoenix Award from the city after his halftime performance at Super Bowl LVIII.
After receiving his proclamation from Overstreet and Phoenix Award from Dickens, Beverly received a custom-made jersey from the Atlanta Hawks. According to Broadway World Music, Beverly is expected to go to Mobile, Alabama, on April 6, Houston on April 13, Chicago on April 27 and Los Angeles on May 12.
