Intelligence analyst Salem Boyd explains how to use AI to your advantage

Salem Boyd emphasizes the need for soft and hard skills to use AI

Salem Boyd is the business intelligence analyst at the National Society of Black Engineers, helping peers and others stay ahead of the rise of AI. Boyd was a panelist at the NSBE 50th annual convention, where he discussed the basic concepts of AI and the information people will need to have a career while using the program.

During the panel, the discussion turned to some of the soft and hard skills you may need for AI and how to use it to your advantage.

“[Opportunities include] data science, machine learning, so on and so forth, being able to hone in on supply chain or finance,” Boyd said. “Concentrate on how you can use these particular skills or resources to deepen your understanding of what you want to do and what type of insight or value you want to bring to your job, company, or project.”

Boyd spoke with rolling out after the panel and shared opportunities in AI.

What can people do related to AI to help better themselves?

Just weave it into your everyday life cycle. If someone goes to the gym, I’m not saying completely throw out music, but maybe split it up. If you’re on a treadmill or whatever you’re doing, listen to a podcast. If you’re outside doing some work, or you’re taking a lunch break or whatnot, maybe read an article. They have ways where you can use AI and put it in an article. You can say “Hey, give me a little quick 10 to 15 seconds brief of this.” Morning Brew is a great source to get little tidbits when you wake up and they’re sent to your inbox or as a text message. That’s just one way to concentrate on what’s important to you if you’re using AI.
