Chicago witnessed an event of monumental significance on March 22, 2024, as the Business Leadership Council celebrated the Power & Genius of Black Women Leaders. The prestigious event, held at The Bronzeville Winery, was a tribute to the remarkable contributions of Black women leaders in various spheres of life, especially in celebration of Women’s History Month. The BLC, a cornerstone in the landscape of Black business leadership in Chicago, orchestrated this event, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to elevating and supporting Black women leaders.
The Power and Genius of Black Women Leaders event was further amplified by the partnership with rolling out, which played a crucial role in connecting the narratives of these powerful women with a broader audience. This collaboration was instrumental in ensuring that the achievements and insights of these women were celebrated far and wide. Additionally, the occasion was elevated to a top-tier caliber event largely due to the official sponsorship of the Obama Foundation, a testament to its significance and alignment with the foundation’s mission to inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world.
Among the attendees were some of Chicago’s most influential Black women, who convened to celebrate not only their achievements but also the collective progress and potential of Black women in leadership. The event featured distinguished guests such as Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton, Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, the CEO of the BLC, Arielle Johnson and Ciere Boatright, Commissioner-City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development . Their words were powerful declarations of the strength, resilience, and brilliance that Black women bring to the table in any field of endeavor.
The BLC, through this event and its ongoing initiatives, stands at the forefront of championing Black business leadership. With over 120 members representing more than 25 industries, the BLC’s influence stretches across the spectrum of business and civic leadership in Chicago. Its mission is clear: to harness the power of today’s Black business leaders to nurture and build the next generation of leaders. This mission is not merely aspirational but is backed by tangible actions and initiatives aimed at developing Black leadership, cultivating opportunities, building capabilities, and forging partnerships that empower the Black community from the grassroots to the boardroom.
This evening was emblematic of what the BLC stands for—an unwavering commitment to elevating Black business leaders and entrepreneurs, fostering an environment where they can thrive, connect, and lead the way for future generations. The emphasis on hiring from within the community and revitalizing Black businesses is a critical aspect of the BLC’s strategy, one that promises not only economic growth but also a sustainable ecosystem of support, mentorship, and opportunity for Black individuals and businesses alike.
