A Georgia man who admitted to putting car antifreeze into the breast milk of his newborn infant to avoid child support payments has been sentenced.
Curtis Jack of city of South Fulton, a southern suburb of Atlanta, reportedly tried to end his child’s life by poising the infant in October 2020, which nearly killed the baby.
According to the South Fulton Police Department report obtained by Fox 5 Atlanta, a jury found Jack guilty on of felony first-degree cruelty to children and felony criminal attempt to commit murder.
Jack has been sentenced to 50 years in prison, with a mandatory 40 years to be served in confinement.
The unidentified woman and Jack, both employees at an unnamed company, had entered a romantic relationship in January 2020.
Reportedly, Jack had previously urged the woman to terminate her pregnancy but she refused and carried the baby to term.
Authorities stated that On October 1, 2020, police said Jack picked up bottles of breastmilk for the mother of his child, who required additional hospitalization after giving birth to their daughter on September 24, 2020.
The news outlet reported that Jack was immediately identified as a suspect when his 18-day-old daughter became “critically ill.” The infant was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite Hospital. The newborn tested positive for ethylene glycol, which is a chemical found in antifreeze. The newborn survived.
Initially, the South Fulton officers’ report stated that Jack admitted to putting antifreeze into the breast milk containers in order to avoid paying child support. He later recanted the story and therefore taken to trial.
