Hip-hop legends Method Man and Redman will headline a unique event on April 19 for the cannabis community in celebration of 4/20 called the Bud Drop. In what could simply be described as a New Year’s Eve-style celebration, cannabis will fall from the top of the venue at midnight in celebration of April 20, better known as 4:20 or 4/20 in cannabis culture, which is a holiday in the cannabis community. The event, which will feature a performance by Styles P of the Lox in addition to Method Man and Redman, will take place at Terminal 5 in New York City. Rolling out spoke exclusively with the creator of the event, Lenny Hansen, better known as “Lenny the Barber” about the event.
“The name the Bud Drop came from the actual cannabis bud and here on April 19, 4/20 eve, we are going to have a bunch of vendors that will be giving out product,” Hansen shares about the event, which he said was manifested in a dream.
“At midnight, we will start the actual bud drop, which will be a huge bud coming out the ceiling,” he shared. “You’ll see confetti, you’ll see balloons dropping from the ceiling, Redman and Method Man will be performing and it is going to be such a momentous occasion. And this is our first annual. We look to do it year after year after year.”
On March 31, 2021, New York State legalized adult-use cannabis (also known as marijuana or recreational marijuana) New York State passed the Marijuana Regulation & Taxation Act (MRTA) on March 31, 2021, making an event like this possible, something not lost on the mind of Hansen.
“Cannabis was shunned for quite some time outside of the medical industry, outside of the government being the only ones that can benefit off of cannabis,” Hansen said. “Now that they have opened it up, not federally yet, God willing, will happen soon. Now, a lot of opportunities are presenting themselves for us to come out and celebrate the actual herb. Years ago, we had to do things on the low. You had to have kind of like really incognito cannabis events and now that we can do so out in the open. It’s a blessing.”
Tickets can be purchased online at axs.com or the Terminal 5 box office.
