Will Smith is set to perform a brand-new track at the 2024 BET Awards.
The “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star best known for “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It,” saving the world in Men In Black, and making the West even wilder in “Wild Wild West,” dropped the tune “Get Lit” in 2017. However, he hasn’t released an album since 2005’s Lost and Found. Coincidentally, 2005 was also the last time he graced the BET Awards stage, a ceremony that celebrates Black entertainers and other celebrities in music, film, sports, and philanthropy.
In a twist of fate that might make the Fresh Prince himself nod in approval, “Lose Control” hitmaker Teddy Swims recently revealed he’s penned a song with Smith. Whether this track will be the one to debut at the awards is still a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
The “Door” singer has no idea what will happen to his work with the 55-year-old Hollywood star-and-rapper, but he’s in a WhatsApp group with him and his mom, who is a super-fan.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen with it and can’t confirm anything, but just being with him and learning knowledge and wisdom from someone who’s been through it all was crazy. I was at his house and trying to FaceTime my mom because she loves him,” Swims told “NME.”
“She didn’t answer but he gave me his number and, the next morning, he texted at 8 a.m. saying I could put us all in a group chat,” Swims spilled.
The 31-year-old singer couldn’t stop gushing about the Men in Black star – who, let’s not forget, made headlines for an entirely different reason when he slapped comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars in 2022.
“He’s the sweetest guy ever,” Swims added, proving once again that everyone loves a good comeback story.
