Filmmaker Lee Daniels recently shared insights into his relationship with actor Jussie Smollett during an interview with Charlamagne tha God on “The Breakfast Club.” Daniels described their connection as complicated but expressed openness to collaborating with Smollett in future projects.

This conversation comes after a tumultuous period for Smollett, who was embroiled in a legal scandal in 2019. Daniels previously expressed feeling beyond embarrassed for supporting Smollett, who claimed to be a victim of a hate crime. The fallout from the incident led to Smollett’s conviction on five felony counts of disorderly conduct.

Daniels admitted that he had to distance himself from Smollett due to the emotional toll the controversy took on him. The scandal also resulted in Smollett’s absence from the final season of “Empire,” the show that propelled him into the spotlight.

Despite these challenges, Smollett continues to pursue his career in the film industry. He recently directed, wrote, and starred in The Lost Holliday, featuring actress Vivica A. Fox.

Meanwhile, Lee Daniels is busy promoting his latest film, The Deliverance, which stars Andra Day, Glenn Close and Mo’Nique. As both artists navigate their careers, fans are left wondering what the future holds for their complicated relationship.
