Eddie Murphy is making Martin Lawrence pay for their kids’ wedding day.

The father-of-10 ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ star, 63, is worth an estimated $200 million, but comic and actor Martin, 59, said the Hollywood icon is making him foot the bill for his daughter Jasmin Lawrence’s upcoming nuptials with Eddie’s boy Eric after they got engaged in November as he’s already paid for six of his children’s nuptials. Celebrity wedding planners estimate that high-profile Hollywood weddings can cost anywhere from $500,000 to several million dollars.

“Well, Eddie said I gotta pay for it,” Martin said on iHeartRadio’s ‘Big Boy’s Neighborhood’. The radio show, which has been running since 1997, has become a major platform for celebrity revelations.

“He said I gotta pay for it ’cause he paid for his last daughter’s wedding, like the last six weddings. He said it’s my turn now”. This playful exchange between the two comedy legends reflects their long-standing friendship in Hollywood, spanning over three decades.

Eddie has 10 children – six daughters and four sons. His growing family has made him one of Hollywood’s most notable fathers, often speaking about the joys of having a large family.

He and his wife Paige Butcher have daughter Izzy Oona, eight, as well as six-year-old son Max Charles – and he is a father to five with his ex-wife Nicole Murphy. Eddie and Nicole were married from 1993 to 2006, making it one of Hollywood’s longer-lasting marriages at the time.

They are son Myles, 32, and daughters Bria, 35, Shayne, 30, Zola, 24, and 22-year-old Bella. Each of Murphy’s children has pursued various career paths, from modeling to entrepreneurship.

Eddie also has sons Eric, 35, and Christian, 34, with former partners Paulette McNeely and Tamara Hood – and had daughter Angel, 17, with ex-girlfriend Mel B. The diversity of his family reflects the complex nature of modern family structures in Hollywood.

Martin has three daughters – his eldest Jasmin, 28, who he had with his first wife Patricia Southall, as well as Iyanna, 24, and Amara, 22, with his second wife, Shamicka Gibbs. Lawrence has maintained close relationships with all his daughters despite his divorces.

Martin added Jasmin and Eric don’t yet have a wedding date fixed. Wedding industry experts note that celebrity wedding planning typically takes 12-18 months to coordinate all details perfectly.

Eric popped the question to Martin’s daughter on 27 November in a room packed with candles and roses, with a video of the moment showing him getting down on one knee and opening a ring box – prompting Jasmin to say: “It’s beautiful. Oh my gosh. Yes.” The proposal video quickly went viral on social media, garnering millions of views within hours.

The upcoming wedding represents a union between two of comedy’s most successful families. Eddie Murphy’s career spans over four decades, with his films grossing over $6.7 billion worldwide, while Martin Lawrence has established himself as a comedy powerhouse since the 1990s.

The couple’s engagement has sparked significant interest in Hollywood, as it represents a rare instance of second-generation celebrities finding love together. Industry watchers note that such unions often face unique challenges due to their high-profile nature and family legacies.

Both families have expressed their joy about the upcoming union, with sources close to them indicating that despite the playful banter about wedding costs, both fathers are fully supportive of their children’s relationship. Celebrity wedding planners are already speculating about potential venues and details for what could be one of Hollywood’s most anticipated weddings of the year.
