The spectacular toppling of entertainment titan Diddy is almost Shakespearean in depth and scope as parents of elementary school students now want his name banned from being spoken in public schools.
Parents are “shocked” and “heartbroken” by the deluge of vulgar or distasteful Diddy jokes being uttered by kids who are not even 10 years old, the New York Post reports. They want Diddy’s name banned from public schools altogether.
What the kids are saying about Diddy
According to the New York Post, Vanessa Mejia said she was stunned that her daughter, a third-grader at PS 11 in Chelsea, said she heard her classmates laugh and yell, “Welcome to my Diddy party!” in class.
The ubiquity of cell phones, laptops, smartwatches and other devices give instant access to news, images, and information and makes it hard to shield children from salacious and violent content.
“I was just extremely shocked by it because these kids are so young,” Mejia told the news outlet. “And then my second thought was, who knows how much information this boy had on the whole [Diddy] situation? Because if he is well-informed, did he really mean to say that? Or was it that he didn’t know what it meant?”
Mejia added that she’s concerned about how much they understand about why Diddy is being jailed in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, on a trio of charges related to sex trafficking. “It’s not kid-friendly information,” Mejia said. “So if that little boy knows more information about [Diddy] than he should, who knows what is going to be told to all the other kids?”
Mejia added “I think it would be a good idea to ban kids from uttering Combs’ name in schools altogether.”
Other parents share Mejia’s sentiments
“It’s terrible. . . . kids are making fun of a situation that has harmed a lot of people. I don’t think that has a place here, and it should be addressed,” said Jose Luis Guerra, who has a son and daughter at the same school.
