President-elect Donald Trump has been speaking his mind freely since his presidential win — and he did no different in his Time Magazine cover interview. Trump stated in his “Person of the Year” interview that he thinks Vice President Kamala Harris’s greatest error in the 2024 presidential election was accepting to run against him in the first place.
Trump stated that Harris’ biggest mistake was “taking the assignment,” after the Democratic party and most of the American people believed that President Joe Biden was no longer qualified to run. This forced Harris to enter and compete as the Democratic nominee with less than three months until Election Day. Trump also added that Kamala “needs to know what she is good at.”
Trump said the American people were not comfortable with voting for Harris because of her lack of interviews. Trump is just the latest to use the excuse that the American people truly didn’t know or trust the vice president. Former President Bill Clinton echoed similar sentiments last week. Trump continued by saying that Harris didn’t do enough interviews but then contradicted himself saying that the interviews were flawed. He went as far as to say her lack of interviews made her easier to read.
“She had some pretty [flawed] interviews, and maybe it was highlighted more than it [should’ve been]. In other words, if she did those same interviews, but [had done] another 15 interviews, you wouldn’t have really noticed it that much,” Trump said. “She put so much emphasis on interviews. Somebody thought there was something wrong, and I don’t think she ever recovered from that.”
Trump won an unprecedented second, nonconsecutive term in office after defeating Harris on Election Day. If you remember, Trump’s sit-down with well-known podcaster Joe Rogan has received 52 million views on YouTube. People were wondering if Harris would interview with Rogan, and apparently following a series of demands for the interview from the Harris campaign, Rogan declined to meet with Harris.
People were in an uproar over the weekend when Time announced Trump as Person Of the Year. In the magazine’s explanation for why Trump was chosen, Time editor Sam Jacobs declared it was an easy choice for the magazine to give Trump this recognition because he is a reflection of society today.
“Today, we are witnessing a resurgence of populism, a widening mistrust in the institutions that defined the last century, and an eroding faith that liberal values will lead to better lives for most people. Trump is both agent and beneficiary of it all,” Jacobs wrote. “For marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America’s role in the world, Donald Trump is Time’s 2024 Person of the Year.”
However, Time also declared Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin as their “Person” — back then “Man” — “of the Year.”
