Shakira has been hospitalised with an “abdominal issue”. The unexpected health concern has impacted her currently running world tour.

The 48-year-old musician, who is currently on her ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ world tour, informed fans of her condition in a statement posted on X on Sunday (16.02.25), as she has been forced to postpone her scheduled performance in Peru due to her emergency treatment.

“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” she said. “The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.”

Shakira had been due to perform in Lima on Monday as part of the South American leg of her tour, which began on 11 February at Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro. The stadium was filled with eager fans for her opening performance.

She is set to play five shows in Colombia, including three in her hometown of Barranquilla, from 20 to 27 February, before closing out the continent’s dates on 8 March. These hometown shows hold particular significance as they mark her return to perform in her native city.

The singer added she was “very sad” about the postponement, explaining she had been looking forward to reuniting with her fans in Peru. The Latin American leg of her tour has generated significant excitement among her devoted fanbase.

But she said she remained hopeful she would be discharged in time for her next scheduled performance, saying online: “I hope to be released and well tomorrow so that I am able to perform.”

Shakira also confirmed her team and promoters were working to reschedule the Peru concert, adding: “Thank you all for your understanding, I love you all, Shak.” The tour’s production team has been working diligently to ensure smooth operations throughout the tour.

The Grammy-winning artist has faced recent scrutiny over her tour’s stage design, with some fans on social media accusing her of copying elements from Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ tour. The production design for her current tour features elaborate staging and lighting effects.

In one widely shared post, a user compared Shakira’s decision to display her name in large silver letters to a similar visual used in Beyoncé’s tour branding. The stage setup includes extensive lighting and visual elements.

Another pointed to the Colombian singer’s onstage metallic wolf, drawing parallels to Beyoncé’s now-iconic silver horse, which featured prominently during her performances. The wolf prop has become a talking point among concertgoers.

Shakira and Beyoncé have previously collaborated, releasing the 2006 single ‘Beautiful Liar’, which achieved significant success on the charts.

Following her opening show in Brazil on her tour, Shakira took to Instagram to share her excitement, declaring: “Rio! I couldn’t have asked for a better crowd to kick off the tour! Thank you for all your love, warmth, and energy on an unforgettable night! São Paulo, are you ready?” The Rio show featured songs from throughout her career.

Shakira‘s ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ tour is set to continue in Mexico from 12 March. The tour, which translates to “Women No Longer Cry,” is her first global tour in seven years and supports her latest album of the same name.

This health setback comes at a crucial time in Shakira’s career, as she continues to promote her latest album and connect with fans worldwide through her energetic performances and powerful stage presence.

The hospitalization has prompted an outpouring of support from fans across social media platforms, with many sending well wishes and hoping for her swift recovery. Her dedicated followers have expressed understanding about the postponement, prioritizing the artist’s health and well-being.

The tour represents a significant moment in Shakira’s artistic journey, showcasing not only her new material but also celebrating her extensive catalog of hits that have made her a global music icon. As fans await updates on her condition, the focus remains on her recovery and potential return to the stage.
