If anybody is going to speak his mind and not hold his tongue, it would without a doubt be KD. Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, who recently eclipsed the 30,000-point mark for his career, went on social media to express his thoughts and sentiments on the discontent of fans following Sunday’s All-Star Game.

From Friday through Sunday, the NBA All-Star Weekend featured a number of events and the biggest names in the league. However, for many, the event no longer bears the same enthusiasm it once had. Durant is one of the critics; he not only said that the NBA should cancel the event entirely because of the harsh criticism from fans, but he also boldly responded to those criticisms. He says he has realized nothing can make the fans happy and he’s honestly fed up with the never-ending naysayers.

Durant advocates All-Star cancellation

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Durant shared his thoughts on the weekend, implying that players would be better off getting a break. “I think it’s more fun to complain about the NBA than to actually watch it. Crazy, cancel All-Star Weekend and let’s just give everybody a break since we’re so miserable around this time,“ Durant said. “I get it. My point is fans complain about EVERYTHING. Like nothing is good enough for the fans right now. The only thing they enjoy is playoffs, trade deadline, free agency, and when players beef with each other lol.”

This was an interesting response from Durant if you really think about it. He’s saying pretty much since we can’t be happy with the actual play on the court, we should cancel one of the most long-standing traditions in the NBA. This is the problem with today’s NBA. Durant should know better because he is an OG. Durant just entered the exclusive 30,000-point club and has been in the league since 2007. If anybody should understand the fans’ complaints, it should be Durant.

The fans are upset at the lack of effort showed in the basketball games, not the game itself. Why would anyone want All-Star Weekend? Durant needs to be honest and just say what he really means: Most of the NBA’s stars would prefer a break than to be at NBA All-Star weekend, Durant included. Trying to be manipulative and twist our words around is par for Durant’s course, but that’s just not the truth. NBA stars don’t even compete in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest anymore, a G-Leaguer has become the winningest slam dunk champion in NBA history, and that is just shameful. If Durant wants All-Star weekend gone, I hope he’s willing to lose all the accolades, praise, and sponsorships that come from it.

This is just the latest example of how little today’s NBA stars care. People always want to blame for LeBron James for all the issues in today’s NBA, but James has never cheated us. At least he’s always there, ready to be a saving grace for the league, outside of missing the All-Star game last week because of foot and ankle soreness. I think more of that blame should be shifted on Durant, and statements like the one above are a prime example why.
