Tracy Morgan is recovering in hospital after being struck down with a severe bout of food poisoning. Food poisoning is a common condition that affects millions of Americans each year, with symptoms ranging from mild discomfort to severe illness requiring medical attention.

The actor/comedian sparked fears for his health after he was seen vomiting courtside during a New York Knicks basketball game at Madison Square Garden in New York on Monday (17.03.25) before being escorted out of the iconic venue in a wheelchair – and Tracey has now thanked fans for all their well wishes and revealed his illness was down to a dodgy dinner. Madison Square Garden, often referred to as “The World’s Most Famous Arena,” hosts numerous sporting events and concerts throughout the year.

“Thank you for all your concern!” In a post on Instagram, Tracy shared a picture of himself lying in a hospital bed and wrote. “I’m doing ok now and doctors say it was food poisoning. Appreciate my MSG [Madison Square Garden] family for taking such good care of me and I need to shout out the crew that had to clean that up. Appreciate you! More importantly, the Knicks are now 1-0 when I throw up on the court so maybe I’ll have to break it out again in the playoffs #goknicks.” The post quickly gained traction on social media, with fans expressing relief about his condition.

The game – which ended with the Knicks beating Miami Heat 116-95 – was delayed for around 10 minutes in the third quarter due to the former ’30 Rock’ actor’s medical incident. The Knicks have been performing well this season in the Eastern Conference.

“We hope Tracy feels better soon and look forward to seeing him back courtside,” a Madison Square Garden representative previously told People magazine. Madison Square Garden has long been the home court for the New York Knicks basketball team.

This isn’t the first time Tracy – who has diabetes and underwent a kidney transplant in 2010 – has experienced public medical issues. Diabetes is a serious chronic condition affecting a significant portion of the American population, requiring careful management and medical supervision.

In 2012, he collapsed outside a building at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, with the screen star’s representative saying it was due to a combination of exhaustion and altitude. The Sundance Film Festival takes place in Park City, Utah, which is located at a high elevation that can cause difficulties for visitors not accustomed to such altitudes.

“Superman ran into a little kryptonite. The high altitude in Utah shook up this kid from Brooklyn,” Tracy – who returned to work a few days later – posted on social media afterwards. The difference between Brooklyn’s sea-level elevation and Utah’s mountainous terrain can be particularly challenging for those not acclimated to high altitudes.

And in 2014, he broke his leg and was in a coma for two weeks, later relearning how to walk and talk, after the limo he was riding in was hit from behind by a Walmart truck on the New Jersey Turnpike. Following this life-threatening accident, Morgan eventually reached a settlement with Walmart, though the terms were not publicly disclosed.

Morgan’s career in comedy spans decades, beginning with his time on “Saturday Night Live” from 1996 to 2003. He later gained additional fame for his role as Tracy Jordan on the critically acclaimed NBC series “30 Rock,” a character that incorporated elements of his real-life personality.

Throughout his career, Morgan has been open about his health challenges, often discussing them candidly with his audience and incorporating these experiences into his comedy routines. His transparency about health issues such as his kidney transplant and diabetes has resonated with many fans facing similar challenges.

Despite facing multiple health setbacks over the years, Morgan has maintained an active career in both television and stand-up comedy. He continues to tour and has appeared in various film and television projects in recent years.

The comedy community and Morgan’s fellow celebrities have expressed support for him during this recent health scare, with many sending public messages wishing him a speedy recovery. His former “30 Rock” colleagues have been particularly supportive through his various health challenges over the years.

According to medical experts, most cases of food poisoning resolve within a few days with proper hydration and rest, though hospitalization is sometimes necessary, especially for individuals with underlying health conditions like diabetes.
