Samsung has announced that One UI 7 will begin rolling out to users on April 10th. This highly anticipated update follows months of development and beta testing across various Samsung Galaxy devices worldwide.
The tech giant will launch its smartphone software based on Android 15 in just a matter of weeks, it has now been confirmed. Industry analysts estimate that over 300 million Samsung devices will be eligible for this update, making it one of the largest software rollouts in mobile history.
In a blog post, Samsung said: “One UI 7 comes with a simple, impactful and emotive design, bringing streamlined and cohesive experience to Galaxy users. A simplified home screen, redesigned One UI widgets and lock screen allow users to intuitively and seamlessly customize their devices.
For added convenience, Now Bar provides real-time updates that matter most right on the lock screen. So during a morning run, users can easily check their progress and see what song is playing in your Galaxy Buds — all with a simple swipe, without unlocking their phone.” The redesign represents the most significant visual overhaul since One UI was first introduced in 2018.
The company also revealed that two other features to come with the software update will help users with writing and drawing. These AI-powered tools are part of Samsung’s continued expansion of Galaxy AI features, which now reach over 100 million active devices globally.
The post added: “With Galaxy AI, users can simplify everyday tasks, minimizing the need to switch between applications. AI Select intuitively recommends by understanding context. For example, a user can simple swipe the Edge Panel and click ‘AI Select’ icon when watching a video to save it as a GIF file. Writing Assist allows users to easily summarize or automatically format contents in which texts can be selected.
One UI 7 also enables simple edits to give users more creative control and freedom. Drawing Assist helps bring ideas to life with more than a single input, including combinations of text prompts and images or sketches. Audio Eraser makes advanced editing accessible for all, by isolating categories of sounds and removing unwanted noise in videos.” These productivity enhancements are expected to save users an average of 45 minutes per day according to Samsung’s internal research.
The update will initially be available for flagship models including the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6, and Z Flip6, with mid-range and older flagship devices receiving the update throughout the summer months. Samsung has committed to providing at least four years of major OS updates for most of its current lineup, setting a new standard for longevity in Android device support.
Security experts have praised Samsung‘s approach to implementing AI features with privacy in mind. All AI processing for sensitive data is handled on-device rather than in the cloud, addressing growing concerns about data privacy in mobile technology.
Battery optimization is another key focus of One UI 7, with Samsung claiming up to 20% improvements in battery life through more efficient background processing and adaptive power management. This addresses a common criticism of previous versions that sometimes sacrificed battery performance for visual appeal.
The rollout will follow a phased approach to ensure network stability, beginning with unlocked devices in South Korea and the United States before expanding to carrier-locked phones and international markets. Users can check for the update manually through their device settings after April 10th.
Industry competition remains fierce in the smartphone software space, with Apple expected to unveil iOS 18 at WWDC in June and Google continuing to enhance stock Android with regular feature drops. Samsung‘s early spring release gives the company a strategic advantage in showcasing innovative features ahead of competitors’ announcements.
Early beta testers have reported significantly improved system animations and touch response, addressing occasional lag issues found in previous versions. The company claims a substantial reduction in app launch times across the system compared to One UI 6.
