In a world where grief often feels like an unrelenting storm, Tori Dixon stands as a beacon of light, guiding others through the valleys of loss and transition. A Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Mortician, and devoted minister, Dixon has spent 18 years creating sacred spaces for healing. She believes healing begins in a safe space where individuals can grieve, reflect, and grow. As the owner and Clinical Director of Graceful Journey Counseling, she integrates faith, cultural competence, and practical wisdom to empower others in their God-given purpose.
In an exclusive interview for Rolling Out’s “In the Spirit Series,” Dixon shares her insights on the importance of anchoring oneself in the Word of God.
A Calling Confirmed in Obedience
For many, discovering a calling is a journey filled with uncertainty. But for Dixon, God’s voice became unmistakably clear at just 15 years old. “I was raised in the church and taught that our lives are a testament to the Gospel. With a family of ministers, I knew tradition alone didn’t confirm a calling,” she recalls. “It’s uncomfortable at times, but I surrender my comfort for the protection of obedience.”
Obedience to God’s calling often requires stepping into unfamiliar and sometimes uncomfortable territories, yet Dixon embraces this divine responsibility with unwavering faith.
The Power of a Personal Relationship with Christ
A relationship with Jesus Christ is not merely an accessory to Dixon’s life—it is the foundation upon which everything is built. “It shapes how I love, work, grow, and think,” she explains. “It humbles my heart, anchors my purpose, and orders my steps. Without Him, I am nothing. His grace sustains me, and I surrender completely to His will.”
This deep-rooted connection fuels her ability to walk alongside others as they navigate grief, loss, and personal growth.
Healing Through the Hem of His Garment
When asked about her favorite biblical story on healing, Dixon immediately references the Synoptic Gospels (Mark 5:25-34), there’s a story of a woman who suffered from a chronic condition (the issue of blood). “For twelve years, she exhausted every resource in search of healing,” Dixon reflects. “When she exhausted her resources, revelation led her to Jesus, knowing He could change her life. Her story reminds me that when I’ve come to the end of my unraveling rope, it’s always tied to the healing thread of His hem.”
Her perspective on healing is a powerful testament to the fact that restoration is not just physical—it is spiritual, emotional, and deeply personal.
Meditating on the Psalms: A Path to Spiritual Depth
The discipline of meditating on Scripture is essential, yet often neglected in the busyness of life. Dixon advises believers to make Scripture personal. “Put your name in the text. Remind yourself that His Word isn’t just general; it’s specifically for you, right where you are.”
In a world filled with distractions, Dixon encourages consistency. “The enemy will use distractions to keep you from God’s Word. But meditation in the Psalms brings clarity, strength, and a deeper connection with God.”
Scriptures for a Stronger Church Body
Dixon highlights three scriptures that address personal and communal issues within the body of Christ:
- Make Peace Within the Body of Christ – Ephesians 4:3 (NIV): “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
- Love One Another Within the Body of Christ – Romans 12:10 (NIV): “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
- Be Gracious When Any of Us Fall into Temptation – James 5:19-20 (NIV): “My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.”
The Urgency of Bible Study and Sunday School
In an era where misinformation is rampant—even regarding Scripture—Dixon stresses the importance of biblical literacy. “We are living in a time where everything—even the Bible—is being filtered through misinformation,” she warns. “Now more than ever, we must be anchored in the Word of God. It’s not enough to simply know of Him; our faith must be rooted in His truth.”
For Dixon, attending Bible study and Sunday School is not a mere tradition; it is a necessary tool for spiritual survival. “As believers, we risk harm to ourselves and others when we are ignorant of the very Word we profess to follow.”
A Life of Purpose and Grace
Beyond her professional and ministerial roles, Dixon finds joy in traveling, football (Boomer Sooner!), great food, and moments with loved ones. Yet, her greatest fulfillment comes from witnessing others embrace healing and transformation through faith.
Her journey serves as a powerful reminder that healing begins in a safe space—where faith meets grace, and brokenness meets restoration. In her obedience to God’s calling, Dixon continues to uplift and empower those seeking light in the midst of life’s darkest seasons.
