Colin Kaepernick is still seeking to return to the NFL, a decade after he was run out of the league for kneeling during the national anthem.
Paparazzi caught up with Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab, a radio and TV host, while she was in New York. She explained that Kaepernick, now 37, remarkably retains the dream of returning to the league that he was last seen playing in 2016 for the San Francisco 49ers.
Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend said he wants to play
“Nothing has changed,” Diab told TMZ. “It’s all up to the teams if they’ll let him play.”
When asked if Kaepernick is still training, she said, “All day, every day!” Nothing has changed! Nothing!”
Interesting, considering that Los Angeles Chargers head coach John Harbaugh offered Kaepernick a job, not as a player, but as an assistant coach. Kaepernick passed on the opportunity.
Colin Kaepernick doesn’t watch the NFL
What’s even more puzzling is Kaep’s admission that he has not watched an NFL game that he wants to return to for nearly the entirety of his exile from the league.
“I haven’t watched (an NFL) game in eight years,” Kaepernick said, according to the Daily Mail.
The quarterback became rich outside the game by Nike who signed the client to a lucrative deal around the time the controversy erupted. He busies himself these days with his tech startup company Lumi. He also said he still enjoys college football.
Colin Kaepernick said he keeps up with QB stats
“I still check everybody’s (NFL) stats,” Kaepernick said. “It also informs who my agent reaches out to, but I still check the stats. I see what’s going on.”
Kaepernick added that he refuses to support the NFL, which ostracized him and colluded to keep him out of the sport, for which he was richly rewarded in court.
“I don’t ever turn a game on though, because I’m not gonna support in that way, but I need to keep my finger on the pulse of what’s happening with quarterbacks out there.”
Besides being known for sitting, then kneeling, during the play of the Star-Spangled Banner — which is sacrosanct in America — Kaepernick was seen as an up-and-coming star who led his 49ers to the 2013 Super Bowl. They lost to the Baltimore Ravens.
