Setting the record straight

During the discussion, Winfrey took the opportunity to clarify misconceptions about her alleged partying with Diddy. She firmly stated, “First of all, I have never been near a Puff party. I have never been near a Puff party. And anybody who knows me knows if there is a party, I am the first one out … I like to sit at home with my thoughts by the fire, with the dogs.” This sentiment was echoed by Jakes, 68, who humorously remarked on the absurdity of the rumors, emphasizing his age and preference for a quieter lifestyle.

Faith as a foundation for success

In their conversation, Winfrey and Jakes highlighted the importance of faith in their personal and professional journeys. Winfrey shared her belief that every successful decision she has made stemmed from being “God-led and Spirit-led.” She reflected on her early struggles with her television network, OWN, admitting that her initial rush to launch was influenced by external pressures rather than her own spiritual guidance. “Opportunity comes your way by being clear about what it is you actually really want to achieve,” she advised, stressing the need for alignment and synergy among team members to manifest success.

The Good Soil Forum: Empowering minority entrepreneurs

The Good Soil Forum, established in 2023, aims to empower minority business owners by providing them with essential resources and networking opportunities. The event featured a series of breakout sessions, panels, and a $500,000 Seed Capital Pitch Competition sponsored by Wells Fargo. Notable speakers included John Hope Bryant, founder of Operation HOPE, Jerry Lorenzo of Fear of God, financial educator Wallstreet Trapper, entrepreneur and artist David Banner, and Pinky Cole Hayes, founder of Slutty Vegan.

Lessons from the Forum

The discussions at the forum underscored the significance of faith, community, and strategic planning in achieving business success. Winfrey’s emphasis on taking time to reflect and seek divine guidance before making significant decisions resonated with many attendees, encouraging them to adopt a more thoughtful approach to their entrepreneurial endeavors.
