NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe flamed veteran rapper Jim Jones for insinuating that his career eclipses that of legendary emcee Nas.
Sharpe flamed Jones on his “Nightcap” podcast, even telling Jones that he wasn’t big enough of a brand name to appear on his more popular show, “Club Shay Shay.”

Jones fired back at the former Denver Broncos legend, saying he was a bigger Nas fan than Sharpe.
“I’m going to sing more Nas records than you!” Jones told Sharpe, then turned to “Nightcap” co-host Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, firing off, “He don’t even know about rap, he’s just doing it for the views to get Jim Jones on here and get him hot.”

Shannon Sharpe told Jim Jones he’s not that dude
Sharpe was incredulous that Jones would have the audacity to imply that he needed to bring Jones on his show to enhance his name recognition and show brand.
“Get him hot? You better check the podcast space,” Sharpe roared at Jones. “This the biggest podcast you EVER been on!” Jones tried to flip the script and detour the conversation back to Nas, but Sharpe was not finished cooking Jones.
Sharpe told Jones that was not on Nas’ level to get an invite to “Club Shay Shay.”
“You not there yet, bro, slow down,” Sharpe spat out. “You might outrun me, but you can’t out-talk me!”
At the conclusion of the commotion, Sharpe lowered the temperature in the room by giving Jones his flowers for the impact he has had on the hip-hop genre.
“We had a blast going back and forth about Nas, Jadakiss, and you,” Sharpe told Jones.
“But, bruh, you stand the test of time, you do what you do, you’re great at what you do, and I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule tonight to come on with Ocho and I and talk about all things. I had a great time.”
How this Jim Jones controversy began
The kerfuffle emanates from Jones’ inflammatory comments on Fat Joe and Jadakiss’ podcast, “Joe and Jada” earlier in June 2025. There, Jones boldly proclaimed that he possesses a superior musical catalog and more Billboard entries than Nas, which Billboard magazine proved was false.
The Dipset MC was responding to a viral clip from a 22-year-old fan, who said Jones’ influence and chart success overshadows Nas. Jones defended the young fan, ordering Fat Joe and Jadakiss — and fans — to “pull up Nas’ Billboard entries, then pull up mine!”
Jones continued, saying, “My son can’t name one Nas record.” Fat Joe and Jadakiss also pushed back on Jones on their podcast as well.
