Former OutKast member Big Boi is mourning the loss of his uncle after he was shot and killed during a road rage episode in Atlanta.
Remoin Thomas Patton Sr. was killed when he got into a verbal altercation with another driver while trying to make a turn in west Atlanta, WSB-TV reports.
An argument preceded the shooting
Both drivers were reportedly making a turn on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW near Rock Street when the verbal altercation popped off.
Crumbley allegedly fired his gun, striking Patton in the back. After being hit, Patton’s vehicle crashed into an empty home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect turns himself in
Authorities announced that 19-year-old Jabyrion Crumbley turned himself in to the police. He has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and firearm possession during a felony. Crumbley is currently being held in the Fulton County Jail without bond.
Big Boi, whose birth name is Antoine Patton, conveyed his devastation to the news outlet.
Big Boi pays tribute to his uncle
“Everybody who knows Uncle Moonie heart aches. He wasn’t just my uncle, he was Unk to all that met him. A moment of rage has totally pierced the heart of my family forever. May Uncle Moonie’s soul rest in peace.”
On Instagram, Big Boi shared a poignant tribute video to his uncle with his 2.2 million followers and added the caption: “Long Live Uncle Moonie … Miss ya UNC. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
Police arrest someone else after the homicide
Days after the homicide, the Atlanta Police Department stated that Janisha Crumbley was also apprehended for allegedly helping to conceal the crime. Authorities haven’t revealed the exact relationship between Jabyrion and Janisha, but she was processed at the police station before being released.
A neighbor, Chris Walker, who is house sitting for the landlord, but was not at home at the time of the killing, described the damage.
“The car just turned and crashed into the house,” Walker told WSB-TV. “Actually, the double windows were right here.”
He says he was astounded at the amount of damage when he was allowed back in the home 24 hours later.
“I’m like, ‘What the heck happened to my place that I’m staying now?’” Walker said. “I never thought it would be this property.”
