Author Myra Harris says “cooking is self-gratifying and cultivates relationships and culinary skills. It doesn’t just feed the body, but it also feeds the soul!” Her latest book, How to Get a Man: From the Kitchen, To the Bedroom, To the Ring is the go-to guide to help couples heat things up in the bedroom.
Rolling out recently spoke to Harris about her new book, what inspires her and the books that have impacted her life.
What is the mission you set out to accomplish with this book?
Again, I want our young ladies to know that there is more to a relationship than sex. I also want to inspire couples to remember the lost art of courtship. I am a romantic and think we all can use a little more love in our lives. Every future book that I write will be in support of love!
What inspired you to write your first book?
I was born and have roots in South Carolina and for as long as I can remember everyone cooked from scratch, whether it was an entrée or dessert. Then after moving to Maryland and growing up in my parents’ home, they both cooked at home and in the church — and they loved it. They were very passionate about preparing the meals for the various events at church. And, at home my mom loved experimenting with food for my dad and even though he always critiqued every dish, he loved that my mom took the time to be creative in the kitchen. She knew how to get those diamonds and pearls, without the apron or stilettos.
Additionally, after many years of dating, cooking and baking, I realized that the chosen men in my life genuinely loved my cooking and some became addicted. (Those stories will be in one of my upcoming books.) I wanted to write a book that lets women know that it’s OK to cater to your significant other through food, while looking sexy at the same time. My book is a road map to creating new and exciting experiences for both parties.
Do you have a specific writing style?
From my years of writing professionally and also in this book, you will notice that I don’t prefer a lot of fluff, but instead, I am very concise, precise and allow my nouns and verbs to do the work for me. I also think I‘ve chosen words that contributed to the flow of the sentences in a very creative manner. I am proud that I am able to join this precise form of writing with sexy phrases, in an elegant flow that is easy to read and follow.

The Way of the Bootstrapper, Think and Grow Rich, One Minute Manager and Lean Start Up.
What books are you currently reading? Why this author?
Since my book dropped at the end of November, I have been focusing on marketing my book, as well as, my other professional obligation as a technical writer. As a result, I am not currently reading anything, but plan to pick up The Girl on the Train. I’d like to find out why Rachel became so obsessed with the familiar strangers.

What is the gift of reading and why does it around up a new world?
Reading stimulates the mind, opens the doors to the world and expands your vocabulary.
Where would you travel if you could to write you next book?
Capri, Italy or Bora Bora, French Polynesia.
