The Baltimore City Detention Center was once a jail controlled mostly by the inmates. According to the Baltimore Sun, members of the Black Guerrilla Gang used sex and power to further corruption inside the jail.
The gang’s leader, Tavon White, was able to run an empire where his crew could sell drugs, weapons, and other contraband inside the prison.
White was able to gain power over the jail by getting close to female guards. During his time in jail, White impregnated four corrections officers, who gave birth to five kids. White’s power over the women was so strong that two of the officers nearly got into a fight while on the job because both of them were pregnant at the same time.
Along with providing sexual favors, the women allowed White and his crew to smuggle contraband inside. Women once made up 75 percent of the 650 corrections officers at the jail.
In 2013, the FBI infiltrated the Baltimore City Detention Center and uncovered the corruption. Twenty-four corrections officers were found guilty. White’s four baby’s mothers were also found guilty.
White pleaded guilty to racketeering and conspiracy and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
