Last week, disturbing details emerged during the bond hearing for Justin Ross Harris. Harris is the Georgia father who allegedly forgot his son was in the backseat of his car while he went to work at Home Depot. The nursery for his son is located at the Home Depot Corporate campus in Atlanta and was within minutes of Harris’ workplace. Sadly, 22-month-old Cooper Harris died of hyperthermia as temperatures in the car exceeded 100 degrees, the little boy died within hours. On this past July 3, during a bond hearing, prosecutor’s revealed startling evidence that brings into question whether Harris acted deliberately in causing his son’s death.
Law enforcement officials seized computer and cellphone records which showed that Harris was visiting various online dating sites and sending pornographic pictures of himself to a 17-year-old unidentified girl. In addition, prosecutors claim that at the time he left his car with his son inside he was “sexting” with at least six different women. Perhaps the most disturbing revelation was that Harris had searched online for ‘hot car’ deaths of animals and also for living a child free life.
The prosecutor’s laid out a timeline which showed that just before Harris headed to work at Home Depot he had breakfast with his son at a fast food restaurant, Chick-Fil-A. According to family sources, this was his son’s favorite time with his father. The restaurant was less than 10 minutes away from his place of employment so Harris had to have known his son was still in the car.
New information also revealed that Harris and his wife Leanna Harris, who has not been charged, had a $25,000 life insurance policy on their son. Prosecutors have stated that Leanna Harris, when left alone with her husband Justin, stated “Well, did you say too much?” Based on this statement and other undisclosed evidence Leanna Harris may also face investigation into her son Cooper’s death. During the bond hearing for her husband, it was noted that she chewed gum and showed no emotion, even when the condition of her son’s body was described.
Justin Harris was denied bond and is imprisoned at the Cobb County, Georgia, jail awaiting trial.
